Privacy Policy

Last updated October 13, 2026

This policy covers the Don Bosco Hiệp Sĩ website (hiepsi.donboscoaustin.org) and the Hiệp Sĩ iPhone app. Both are run by the Hiệp Sĩ branch of the Don Bosco Chapter of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (VEYM) in Austin, Texas, for our members, their families, and our leaders (Huynh Trưởng).

What we collect

  • Your account: your name (including saint and middle names), username, email address, gender, and a profile photo if you add one. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash.
  • Your membership: your rank, team, and role in each school year.
  • What you do here: daily Bó Hoa Thiêng (BHT) entries, attendance check-ins, lesson suggestions and upvotes, form responses, and photos or answers you submit for chapter activities.
  • Messages you send us: suggestion-box questions and prayer intentions, which you can choose to send anonymously.
  • Linked sign-ins: if you sign in with Discord or Apple, the account identifier they give us, and your Discord username and avatar.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on in the app, a push token for your device.

We don't collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifiers. We don't track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell your information or use it for advertising. The website counts visits with self-hosted, cookie-free analytics that don't identify you; the app has no analytics.

How we use it

Only to run the chapter: taking attendance, recording BHT, publishing announcements and lessons, running activities, and keeping in touch. Leaders and chapter administrators can see member records. Other members can see your name, username, photo, team, and role on rosters and on your public profile, unless an administrator has hidden your profile.

Who else handles it

Your information is stored on our own self-hosted servers. We also rely on:

  • Vercel, which hosts the website;
  • Discord, which delivers suggestion-box questions and prayer intentions to our leaders' channel (marked anonymous when you choose), and which signs you in if you use Sign in with Discord;
  • Apple, if you use Sign in with Apple, and to deliver notifications to iPhones;
  • Expo, which relays the app's notifications to Apple.

Each receives only what it needs to do that job.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your account while you are a member, including your history from past school years. You can delete your account at any time from your profile, in the app or on the website. Deleting it permanently erases your name, email address, profile photo, linked sign-ins, notification tokens, BHT entries, and prayer intentions, and signs you out everywhere. Chapter records such as past attendance and team history are kept, but without your name or any other way to identify you. Anything you sent anonymously was never linked to you.
